Let’s Talk About Herbs and Their Association to Harvest!
Every herb, vegetable, fruit, and spice must be nourished and tended to for a successful harvest. They all have specific requirements on how they should be tended to, especially for more bountiful or healthy results.
The beautiful thing about the ideology behind harvest is that it is associated with abundance. The cornucopia, a horn-shaped woven basket filled with fruits, spices, and various commodities that bring forth spiritual and physical fulfillment, symbolizes the horn of plenty. Typically, we see this symbol in our mundane lives around fall because it is usually the most prominent time for harvesting all kinds of consumables! In our communities, we typically discuss and build upon the resources we harvest. While one year we might not be as lucky as the next, we can still feel abundant in the knowledge that we were given a gift by the earth’s generosity and that we can share our resources because we know that when we share, we will receive three times as much, which will lead to abundance.
Abundance comes from the essence of hard work, diligence, and patience. If something requires lower maintenance, you may experience harvest a bit quicker! If something requires more maintenance, you must be willing to be patient to a virtous degree and put in the work to keep the spirit fulfilled until it is ready to bestow a harvest upon you. Many of us seek a plentiful harvest without dedicating time, effort, and consistency to our gardens, and I don’t mean just our physical ones. We view others who may have been on the same journey and desire to have what they have at that very moment while not appreciating our little buds of success. We don’t look to ask about the foundation of our garden and ask ourselves: “Is my soil right for the kind of plants I’m seeking to harvest this year? Am I planting my seeds promptly and tending to their needs? How can I make sure I have the right tools to keep an indicator of my garden’s needs and be able to fulfill them to ensure I have a better harvest next year as I learn from my past mistakes?” These “seeds” represent our goals. Accept that it’s a process, and rejoice in your little victories! Everybody has unique resources and timing, which can help or impede their ability to reach their goals and achieve success. The slightest devotion and appreciation for even the nuanced victories leads to abundance.
